A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING

So, I found out something interesting today. My local specialty store is NOT necessarily a healthy store. Duh!! It's beautiful, pricey, and I have been going there for about 10 years! I love the owner and all those that work there and their service is out-of-this-world great, too. For those reasons, I had naively believed that they had higher quality foods. For the most part, they do, but we all know what happens when you assume.

I wanted prawns for dinner. It turns out that many of their prawns are farmed and come all the way from Indonesia (farmed and harvested in rice and then deveined in machine with loads of water. What kind of water? Who knows.). Then, in the prepared foods section, the prawns are sourced from Vietnam! Freaking A. Why? As my 30 Clean Coach said - my home is coastal -- it's not like I live in Nebraska and am buying seafood! Ain't that the truth. I've probably been glowing like a nuclear reactor for years. But I digress. I was able to find some from Mexico, which although wild, were still a carbon footprint away. I bought them anyway because they were honestly the best choice. Man, I am disappointed. Disappointed in the store but more disapointed in myself for never asking the important questions. Lesson learned. Looks like I will be going to Berkeley Bowl more often for proteins.

Day 11 dinner below. Said wild Mexican prawns, a kale salad, and more zoodles.
